Proficiency Card

A Proficiency Card is represented by the suit of Spears from the Arthurian deck of tarot cards. After winning it, the player keeps the Proficiency Card in the character’s folder until used. The Proficiency Card can only be utilized during a Winter Training Phase when the player chooses the option of rolling d6 points to be added to his character’s skills (to a maximum score of 15). The player rolls a d6 like normal, and then consults the following table:

d6 Roll Result & Proficiency Card Application:
1-3) The result of the die roll is considered to actually be a “5”
4-5) The result of the die roll is considered to actually be a “6”
6) The result of the die roll is considered to actually be a “7”

The player does not have to declare that he is considering using a Proficiency Card until after the d6 roll is made. If he elects to use the Proficiency Card, then he gets the number of skill points indicated in the above table and the card is returned to the GM. If he decides not to use the Proficiency Card then he gets the number of skill points determined by the die roll and he saves the card for a future Winter Training Phase. It is permissible for a player to have more than one Proficiency Card in his possession at the same time, but naturally only one may be used during any particular Winter Training Phase.

Upon winning a Proficiency Card, if the player has more than one character in the campaign, he must chose which PC will be the recipient of the card prior to the start of the next game session. Proficiency Cards cannot be passed onto other characters, so the one who possesses such a card must use it or eventually lose it. Whenever a character dies or retires (i.e., no longer undergoes Winter Training Phases), any unused Proficiency Cards the character has are returned to the GM.
